Taking the Road to Recovery after an Accident

|

You could be riding in your car like it was any other commute and then all of a sudden, all you hear is the sound of a loud BANG and moments following seem like an instant blur. The reality is that you have just been involved in a car accident.

Or maybe it’s just another shift in the work week and you’re carrying about as you normally would. You find yourself whistling as you undertake your duties at work and as you turn a corner, you have slipped on something, fallen onto the hard ground and find it painful to get up because you’ve been injured.

Both of the above scenarios can happen to just about anyone and can take place within a split of a second. Although many can be unavoidable, accidents are often the result of another person’s negligence or recklessness and the outcomes of accidents can vary. For example, if you fall, you may sustain a bump that you can walk off with. However, if you are not so lucky, you can end up with serious injuries that can put you out of work or leave you with long-term pain. Either way, the person(s) responsible for the accidents should be held accountable for the injuries you sustain.

Common Car Accident Injuries

Injuries resulting from car accidents can be sustained on any part of the body and vary in severity. The degree of the injury is often determined by the kind of accident you are involved in. Mild car accidents can leave you unscathed while severe ones can lead to permanent injuries and even disability. The most common car accident injuries include:

  • Head Injuries – These occur when the impact of the accident lurches your head to hit an object or an object hits your head. The severity of the injury will depend on the impact.
  • Neck Injuries – The impact of an accident can make your body jerk abnormally, and may lead to some form of neck injury.
  • Back injuries – Lower back injuries are common in car accidents and can be very severe to the extent of causing disability.
  • Laceration – This injury is often as a result of flying glass or debris shattered by the impact of the accident.

Common Workplace Related Injuries

Most of the time, work-related injuries can be prevented. Most of the injuries occur because the person who should take the initiative to put safety measures in the workplace don’t take such precautions, or they implement them incorrectly. For instance, spills and wet floors should be cleaned up as soon as possible and marked with a hazard sign. However, many times the liquid will not be cleaned up immediately and it doesn’t become an issue until someone slips on it and injures themselves. Common workplace injuries include:

  • Slips and falls – The most common cause of slips and falls are slippery or wet floors.
  • Machine inflicted – These are injuries can be sustained when you are operating an equipment and it malfunctions.
  • Falling objects – Accidents caused by falling objects are particularly common in the construction industry.
  • Electrical and construction hazards – Injuries from these types of casualties are common in workplaces with faulty wiring or poor construction in common high-traffic areas.

Outcome of Workplace Accidents

Some injuries are visible while others are not. Therefore, it is advisable to get checked by a doctor whenever you are involved in an accident. You should get examined even if you feel fine. Although you may not see any serious injuries on the surface, there could be an issue beneath it all. For example, if you fall and hit your head, you might stand up and think you’re just feeling some aches and light headedness from what you think is a typical fall, but it could be more serious like a concussion or minor nerve damage. Either way, getting checked out couldn’t make the situation worse, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Getting First Aid might help to reduce the severity of an injury. However, an accident victim should seek medical attention in a hospital as soon as possible. In case of internal injuries, imaging services such as x-rays or CT scan might be the only way to detect internal injuries before they worsen.

However small or big the outcome of an accident is, the person responsible should pay for the damages. In a car accident, the driver at fault should take responsibility. In case of a workplace related injury, the company you are working for should be held accountable.  You should be compensated for bodily injury sustained.

The compensation will depend on the severity of the injuries sustained. Injuries leading to permanent disability or loss of revenue attract higher compensations.  Whatever injuries you may find yourself in, our law offices of Darwin Johnson are here to work with you to get the compensation you deserve for the injuries sustain in an accident.
