The Most Common Workplace Injuries

|

Workplace injuries happen more often than you might think. We’re not just talking about catastrophic injuries (thank goodness those are rare!), though. We’re also talking about every day, run-of-the-mill injuries like cuts, pulled muscles, and scrapes.

There are a lot of different kinds of injuries that can happen in the workplace. Here at the Law Offices of Darwin F. Johnson, we’ve represented clients in over 2,500 cases since 2004 – so we’ve seen just about everything. Looking back on all of those cases, we thought we’d share with you what kinds of injuries are the most common. Hopefully, being aware of what these injuries are can help you take some appropriate preventative measures.

  • Violence

Believe it or not, workplace violence accounts for a big enough percentage of workplace injuries that it should be recognized on this list. This includes a fight between co-workers, or when one worker attacks another.

  • Machine-related injuries

It’s sad to see this happen, but sometimes workers become ensnared or tangled in machinery. This can cause catastrophic damage like the loss of a limb.

  • Vehicular Accidents

Whether it’s a forklift operator accidentally running over a foot, or a truck driver in an accident on a highway, on-the-job vehicular accidents happen more often than we’d like.

  • Repetitive Motion

These injuries can surface in the form of carpal tunnel. They can also be realized when a worker experience a slow, gradual onset of pain in a given area that is constantly used throughout a workday.

  • Reactionary Injuries

Let’s say you jump out of the way of a falling object and when you land, you feel a pop in your knee. You go to the doctor and find out you’ve torn your ACL. This is a reactionary injury: You weren’t hit by anything, and you didn’t fall – the injury occurred as a result of your trying to prevent an injury.

  • Falling Objects

These, like machine injuries, can sometimes be catastrophic. Though they are self-explanatory, we could illustrate the point like this: A printer falls from a shelf and lands on someone’s hand, breaking it. This is a falling object injury.

  • Falling Injuries

These injuries are the result of a worker falling from a high place, like a catwalk or a bridge.

  • Slipping

A restaurant worker is walking around the kitchen. She’s carrying a tray as she walks by a grill when her foot meets a puddle of fresh grease and she topples backward. This is an example of a trip.

Hopefully, you’ve found this list useful. If you have been injured on the job in Atlanta, GA or one of its surrounding areas, don’t waste anytime in contacting the Law Offices of Darwin F. Johnson for a Free Consultation.
