America’s Dangerous Jobs

By Darwin F. Johnson on March 16th, 2016 in Atlanta Workers Comp, Macon Workers Comp, Savannah Worker's Comp, Workers Compensation

Trust me, as an experienced work injury lawyer in Atlanta, I know firsthand that getting hurt on the job is nothing to be entertained by. But there’s something thrilling about danger, and while most of us would never want to climb aboard an Alaskan fishing boat, or 200 feet up a redwood tree, it’s fun to take a peek at the lives of the few brave folks who look the most dangerous jobs in America straight in the eye.

So with that, and without further ado, here are some of the most dangerous professions in the country:

Pilot

Sure, they get paid around $100,000/year on average, but the relatively high salary comes with a whole lot of risk and responsibility. The given is that their office is over 30,000 feet up in the air. Also, consider that with every flight, they take the lives of up to hundreds of people in their hands. That sounds like a lot of air pressure.

Construction Worker

Roughly 20% of all fatalities that occur at work happen on construction sites. That’s a mind-blowingly huge number. Furthermore, stats show that the fatality rates among them are increasing overall. Add in the fact that their salaries are relatively low on average, and you have a recipe for disaster, stress and danger. Somebody get those guys and girls a raise!

Truck Driver

The danger of being a truck driver comes from another recipe of factors that, when added together, only equal an outcome of easy disaster. For one, they’re under pressure to deliver their goods on time, so that means driving long hours to meet deadlines. Operating a large vehicle on busy roadways is also just inherently dangerous. Automobile accidents account for some of highest causes of death worldwide, and more time on the road only means more opportunities to crash. Fortunately, the number of truck driver deaths is slowly decreasing. However, non-fatal injuries are going up.

Police Officer

This one goes without saying. Our brave law enforcement officers, both in Atlanta and all across Georgia, put their lives on the line every day to serve and protect the greater good, and that makes them heroes as far as I’m concerned. Traffic injuries account for the highest number of on-the-job fatalities among police officers, and sadly that number is increasing. Fortunately, however, the number of assaults against them is on the decline.

With that, maybe you’re not going to fly out of whatever field you’re currently in to get a pilot’s license, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get hurt at work too! And if you do you’ll want to hire a good workers’ compensation attorney in Greater Atlanta who works hard to try and help you get everything you’re entitled to. If you find yourself in such a situation, don’t hesitate to get in touch, and I’ll be glad to help.
