The Safest Jobs

By Darwin F. Johnson on May 26th, 2016 in Atlanta Workers Comp, Ergonomics, injury prevention, Workers Compensation

In short, if you want to lessen your chances of obtaining a work-related injury, think about beginning a career in the service sector or academia. More specifically, if you land a job in finance or IT, your chances of getting injured will be so low, it’ll be a surprise if the hospital doesn’t start paying you!

In all seriousness, workplace mishaps that lead to serious injuries are all too common in the United States. Folks near Athens, GA who need work comp lawyers can rest assured knowing that they have access to my firm in the wake of their accidents, but it’s best to try and avoid them altogether.

One way to do so is to go into a field with statistically low injury rates. Here’s a list of what some of them are:

Investment & Financial Services

Other than the risk of suffering a brain aneurism or heart attack when the stock market starts to crash, a job in investment services isn’t likely to cause you any serious injuries. You might be handing out credit cards to your customers, but one thing’s for sure: You probably won’t be maxing one out to pay for hospital bills if you stay put in the finance sector. Injuries in finance occur to the tune of 0.1 percent of all workplace accidents nationwide.

Academia

Academia consistently gets an A in safety, as far as those who work in the field are concerned. The relatively low physicality required to do the job, and overall calmness of it, make America’s classrooms especially safe places to spend a career. So if you want to ensure a low chance of ever becoming seriously hurt, think about a job in teaching—who knows, you might even learn a thing or two!

Other Business Sector Jobs

Beyond finance, the other jobs that full under the business sector umbrella are close behind in terms of safety. Consider IT, professional services, human resources and the like if you want a low risk of injury in the workplace. One of the safest jobs out there is in patent and trademark leasing, which contributed to a reported 0.2 percent of overall work injuries in the U.S. last year, according to OSHA.

Keep in mind that just because the risks for injuries in these fields are low, that doesn’t make them nonexistent. No matter how dangerous your job is general, an injury could happen to anyone. If you do need a lawyer for workers’ compensation in Athens, GA and surrounding areas, give me a call and my firm will be glad to make a plan of action with you. Otherwise, keep it safe and stay alert. We wish you happy and healthy working!
